Mark,
I don't know why you labelled military personnel carrying out their orders, rightly or wrongly, as an "Excuse". I failed to see your logic.
Politics aside, militaries around the world have one thing in common: to protect the interests of their nations. So anonymous 22 June 2011 2:34 pm is correct in that military is the instruments of politics. Politicians make policy. The military enforce that policy. Of course, all of us, including our soldiers, have moral ethics and are emotionally attached to the country they served. However, when you enlisted into the military, you are part of an organization of fighting machines. If you want to protest whether to enforce or not enforce the orders to evict people, then you go into politics, not military branch. Do you see the differences, Mark? I don't mean it to be simplistic, but I don't see it any other way. It's a totally difference philosophy when it comes to military and politics.
In addition, many people see everything as one organization. It's not entirely true. When military leadership disagree with political leadership, you have a "coup" as in the case of Thailand.
Now, the Thai military have embellished themselves with all kinds of good stuff from their over-hyped military hardwares from better uniforms to eating good fresh foods daily and painted a picture of goody-goody Thai military. Give me a break. What I see is a show-offs. It's a propaganda used by them. It will not change our troops position.
I will post front line pictures at another post as the comments section doesn't permit me to do so.
Our military as it is presently constituted, is good enough to defense and repel any would-be enemy's invasion. We simply don't have enough pictures and information other than the one that they want to show us. It doesn't mean that they don't have them. As the country progresses, so do our military. Stay positive, and keep everything civil. God bless Cambodia, our soldiers and our people.
Best Regards,
The Great Khmer Empire
